Leggsong,
'HEAVEN HELP ME' wins Broadjam, Pro-review contest!!!
from
the Broadjam newsletter.....
Congratulations are
in order for Alex Legg whose winning song, "Heaven
Help Me," was chosen by Johnny Neel.
First, listen to the
winning song, "Heaven Help Me," by Alex Legg. This bluesy ballad
has some soulful piano playing and great vocal qualities that
are truly inspiring.
“This was a heartfelt soulful song sung and performed from
the heart, which always makes for a great song. The production
on a song is very important although sometimes it's the performance
that maintains the integrity of a well thought out song that you
can feel the emotion and soul, and "Heaven Help Me"
is one of those songs. When a Music Publisher and/or A&R person
from a label is listening for songs, they want to feel and hear
the story or idea that has been written and performed so that
it can be used to reach Platinum status...”

I
am about to go into the studio with Judy
Turner, Neil Adam and the incredible, Melbourne
Scottish Fiddle Club. The plan is to record a song for
their new CD, the poignant, What
a Day it's Been, (set in the wake of some, natural
or otherwise, disaster)
WERE
YOU THERE made it to the final ten
of the Port Fairy Songwriters' Contest. Enda
Kenny has just released a new CD containing his cover of the
same song!
Played Music
at the Creek Festival in Braidwood, NSW. Travelled there and
back in the company of Martin Pearson. Martin was my tour-guide
as we made our scenic way home via the Snowy Mountains! We stopped
along the way to help a blue tongued lizard cross the road. Said hello to a crowd of Kangaroos, one emu and birds of various
colour and squawk! Touring in Australia is an opportunity to see
this diverse, majestic and inspiring country. In the company of
Martin, the ways and follies of the pioneers is put into hilarious
perspective. If you haven't seen him live, you've missed out!
Catch up with Martin
Pearson and hear what he's up to.
HEALESVILLE is now officially
launched in Australia! Myself and a band consisting
of four of Melbourne's finest, Steph Brown (Bass) Tony Hargreaves
(keys), Dave Hicks (drums) and The GREAT Dave
Steel (Guitars & mandoline) took the stage at The Cornish
Arms, Brunswick and played a set from Healesville. Rory
Ellis opened up for me. GREAT Gig! Thanks to all
who came along on the night.
Working towards the
weekend of the launch I had the pleasure of performing and being
interviewed live-to-air, by Derek
Guille on ABC Radio. We started out talking about a wee place
in Scotland, Auchnagatt.
A place Derek visited while visiting some friends. The place where
I attended my first school! Small World!!!

Since arriving in Australia
I have been involved in a number of Festival Gigs. PORT FAIRY, where the aformementioned, 'Were You There?' was a song-award finalist. Played four memorable sets there! Maldon Folk Festival,
Maldon is a beautiful little town in Victoria's historic Goldfields. It
was there I first heard and met, songwriter/performer Rory
Ellis. It was at Maldon too, that I first met the legendary
Andrew Pattison, a great
patron and supporter of Australian music. I had the pleasure of playing
his Troubador Wine Bar
at the Festival.
Check out Andrew's pages, sample his Award winning wine
when you get the chance. Maldon Festival gave me a great opportunity
to see a lot of the talent working around the place. A highlight
for me was a brief meeting with Eric
Bogle, a man whose songs I'd played down the years. I was
knocked out by the wonderful Kavisha
Mazzella. Enjoyed playing a few late-night songs with Kavisha,
Rusty, Rory and others including the insanely talented Martin
Pearson, when at Chewton
Festival. My inclusion in the programme for WOODFORD FESTIVAL was all down to performing at THE FOLK ALLIANCE CONVENTION in Adelaide. |
